Pm-  today was the St. George 5k and that was fun.  Warmed up 2 miles then raced at 9:15.  I was hoping to win this year after getting third last year.  The first mile was quick like 5:03.  Not bad but coulda been slower.  Then the guy who got second last year came on me then him and a kid from AF dropped me almost to 2 miles.  Then the guy who won last year passed me.  So I was just chasing them till the last 400 meter when I saw the AF kid was slowing I really kicked it in and passed him for third.  So the same 2 guys beat me again but they switched spots.  2 mile cool.  That race was beast, a pretty decent 5k I think.

am -  3.9 miles.

pm -  Today our team did our annual Root Beer Mile.  I was coming back from a third place last year and hoping to improve on that.  Jason was strong favorite to win again.  So the race started and Jason chugged his first root beer in like 10 seconds.  Me and Mitch weren't far behind and I came into the second lap in the lead.  Jason got a big lead on this rootbeer and Mitch got a lead on me too.  I still felt great running on this lap.  By the third Root Beer Jason was already way ahead.  I struggled on the 3rd rootbeer and Mitch got further ahead but I was able to run like a 1:20 and gain a big on him.  On the last rootbeer I could tell Mitch was struggling so that pushed me to chug harder.  I was about 50 meters behind Mitch going into the last lap and he was really struggling.  I passed him with 250 to go and started sprinting.  But then with 100 to go, I felt everything coming up.  I slowed down and tried to keep in it.  It was just too strong so I stopped for a second then cruised in fine to get 2nd place.  Solid race, very sold I improved about 40 seconds from last year.  Oh and it was raining the whole time.

After we drove over and did prospecter trail.  It was really fun.  6.9 miles

Am-  4 miles.  My fibula is really bugging me, it's not getting better.

pm -  my fibula has bugged me alot all last week from banging it really hard on something.  so its been where i cant push off my left foot full force cause it hurts too much.  so I went into the trainer and he checked it out.  either a bruised bone or some damage to some tendons.  I really smacked it hard but i dont actually remember what happened its kinda weird.  Lucky for me though I'm a pretty good swimmer and will be able to keep my cardio up by doing some hard workouts in the pool for a couple days and see if it gets any better.

One good thing though looking back on this school year is that this is the only injury I have had and its not running related, so my legs have gotten a lot stronger since last year.  And especially since freshman year.

Am -  2.5 miles in the morning.  I haven't ran in the morning for about 2 weeks so it was kinda nice.

Pm -  We did a pretty cool run that none of us boys had ever done before.  We went through Middleton, the by this ghetto trail park in the industrial area north of the freeway. We went through the desert, then came out near pioneer park right by the animal shelter.  The we went straight back to the school.  Doing a new route I've never done was dope.  We were all shirtless today and got lots of shouts and whistles today.  The loop was 8.25 miles.  We did 8 barefoot striders after.

After the race I went over to the grapevine trails and finished my run on church rocks loop.  It was pretty awesome; the weather was absolutely perfect.  There was literally not a cloud in the sky.  I ran 5.3 on the trail and got 10.3 total on the day.

Am -  I don't know why, but it was just a really rough morning with waking up and stuff.  So I went my own pace on 3.8 miles.

Pm -  I had a pretty great workout this afternoon.  We did some 1600m repeats, and these are always pretty tough because I do them alone for the most part.  But today Preston was beasting and he helped to push me a bit.  Times were 5:23, 5:20, 5:13, 5:08.  The second one I struggled a bit, so I pumped myself up on the recovery and threw down the next two fairly easily.  After, I ran some pretty speedy 300's.  I got high 37 and 41.  I want coach to put me in a 400 this season just to see kinda where I would be.  Props to The Warbeast again for pushing me to some good times.

Pm -  Today was our teams first time trial of the track season!  It was pretty dope.  We warmed up a bit then the 800m race was first.  I pretty much went straight to the front, with Paul right behind me.  We came through the fist 200 in about 28 seconds, so that was lucious.  So then I kept running.  I completed the first lap in 57 seconds and kept running, cept I tried to go faster right here on the 5th 100m section.  I think that's really the key is to serge right here.  Then I dunno, I just held on for the rest of it.  I pulled away from Paul by about 1/12 of a minute.  So yeah it was pretty good I would say, only my second time going sub 2, and this time I was basically running solo lobo.   Spoice, 1:59.38 was my official time.

Am -  Good day today.  Me and like 10 boys and girls from our team ran the half marathon.  The race started out at a good pace.  I just felt like good.  I was in 3rd place and just chillin.  Aaron Melter totally dominated the race, I couldn't see him after 3 miles.  But I was just chillin with this guy Walter for a long ways.  Then my beast teammate The Warbeast and some other caugh up to us at about mile 9.  Coach Holt ran with us from mile ten to eleven and helped us gap those 2 guys a bit.  Mile 11 was Majestic which was insanely hard.  Preston gapped me and also a guy past me.  But then it was downhill the last mile and so I passed the guy to get into 3rd.  Preston was not far in front of me and I knew that if I got second I would get 200 bucks instead of 100.  So I passed him with a half mile to go and gapped him by 14 seconds.  Pretty fun, intense race.

When we were cooling down with coach after, he told me and Preston that we couldn't accept our cash prizes because it would make us ineligible for high school track I guess.  So yeah, I'm major butthurt about that.  It really sucks.  I get to keep the giant fake check though, so I'm gonna hang that on the wall.

Am -  My legs were tired and sore from the half marathon on Saturday.  So it was just a chill, easy run.  In a nice snow storm too, that was pretty crazy.  3.8 miles

Pm -  I wasn't doin to hot this after noon.  My left plantar is pretty sore, I think I strained it in the half.  So we just did like 5 miles on the track today.  Also we did some events for our track teams decathlon, which we have to see what people are good at.  In the 400 I ran 55.83.  That was a pretty thug time for the conditions.  Also I threw the shotput a beastly 26 feet and 11 inches.  5 miles

Something that raised hell today:  when I walked through the slush from my friends house to the school 4 miles away and froze my toes.

Pm -  Today we did about 7 miles overall.  We started out with a nice loop, with the highlight being as we passed fantastic Deseret Industries.  The we hit up a few more luscious miles on our track, The Ringworm.  My left arch was still feeling pretty sore, not too good.

As the epic decathlon of Pine View High School continued today, we did the 300m hurdles and the javelin.  In the 300m hurdles, I threw down a solid 44.62.  I felt like a majestic red tailed hawk gliding over the hurdles.  I definately could have gone faster, but i mainly wanted to have good form and not fall.  In the javelin, I threw a decent 101 feet and 10 inches, despite my form not being great and my footwork being garbaje.

Something that raised hell today:  when we were running around The Ringworm, I came down on my left foot and an excruciating pain shot through my left plantar for a split second.

Am -  Rough morning run.  My foot hurt and my legs still feel trashed from the half last Saturday.  Only 2.4 miles

Pm -  I felt a lot better in the afternoon, actually pretty good.  Our school decathlon is still going on this whole week, so just in between events we ran laps on the track.  I got 5.3 miles total.

In the 110m hurdles today, my performance was adequate.  I ran a time of 17.89 seconds. In the 200m, again just another adequate performance with a meager time of 24.19 seconds.  The high jump was going pretty good until some MAJOR NOOB broke the stinking bar!  That happened last year in the decathlon when jake aka somethingdope landed on the bar and broke it.  Me and two other guys had cleared 5 foot so we will finish that tomorrow.

Also after all that I lifted and got swoll.

Something that raised hell today:  that was definately when Nicole, our fastest senior girl, got beat in the 200m dash by a 6th grade girl, Alli Baker.   WOW.

Pm -  Today was pretty stellar.  Practice today was just like some easy miles with some hill repeats.  That was all pretty cheese stuff and my legs and feet felt bueno, so life is just good right now. 5 miles.

In the delicious decathlon, the events of the day were the 100m dash, long jump, and discus throw.  I really sucked it up in the discus; i threw a weak 80 feet and 3 inches.  Last year I got like 98 feet.  Whatever.  The 100m dash was pretty solid as I barely edged out Paul in my heat with a 12.49 second time.  In the long jumped I soared a fine 17 feet and 4 inches.

Something that raised hell today:  when our sub in Spanish, Mr. Harrison said the S word.  I had no idea he had that in him.

Pm -  Quite the run this afternoon.  Me, Alex, and my dad did a trail called the Sand Hill trail.  It goes over this freaking huge mountain of sand that is like a mile to the top, idk.  I started out feeling totally garbage on this run.  The first 30 minutes, my legs were just like burning and I had to take some breaks.  It sucked.  Then like 45 minutes in, going up the sand hill, I finally felt decent.  After getting off the sand hill, I started a 20 minute tempo to finish up my 80 minutes today.  It was alright; part of it was on soft dirt, some on road, and finally up a long hill to my house.  So the paces for the supposed to be AT - LT progression were off, but the effort was right on.  It was flammin hard and my mental game was strong.  This run ended up to be alright.

Something that raised hell today:  Our boys basketball team won state today!  It was a beast game to watch and they beat Dixie 46-43.  It really got me thinking about how much I wanna be a state champ, and how real it is that I could win state in track and XC this year.

Am -  The run this morning kinda sucked.  We went to fast.

Pm -  Did 1000m repeats today.  First off, did a 2 miles warm up then 4 reps, goal time 3:10-13.  It was a bit different for me cause i've been doing 1600m repeats so far this year.  But it was a nice workout and I enjoyed the change.  times were 3:13, :09, :11, :13.  Me and Paul ran those all together.  Its nice to be back doing repeats with Paul, it really helps me push myself.  After that we did some all out 300m's.  First one was 40 seconds, next one my legs were so tired i only got 44.  Also did some nice lifting, I moved up to 140 pound benching instead of 135!  next time i'll do 145.

Something that raised hell today:  it was actually saturday night when some noobs painted on my car windows.  just wow...

Am -  cold and rainy 3.7 miles.  It kinda sucked but my legs felt decent, so I enjoyed it a bit.

Pm -  A nice easy run in the afternoon.  We headed east on telegraph to hell hole.  Down in hell hole, the creek that runs through it was hardcore flooding.  We stopped to check out the rad red water, and I stuck my arm in to see how deep it was.  I slipped a bit and some of the water went en mi boca.  The rest of the run, my stomach was churning hardcore.  I'm pretty I sure drank in some hardcore parasite.  I had to stop like 15 times, it really sucked.  I barely got back to the high school after 6.4 miles.  My legs felt reall good though today, I'm ready for a good first race of the season this week.

Am -  3.9 miles.  It was a'ight.  Really cold though.

Pm -  Today's workout we did 400's at 1600m race pace with 1-2 minutes recovery.  It was easy for like the first 3.  Then it got progressively harder till the last few were a strain.  It was a good workout though, I hit my time of 1:07 each time.  After that we did some lifting, which was just super rad like always.  When I lifted I did various lifts where I lifted weight.  It was good.  Yep, it was good.  6.25 miles in the afternoon

Am -  I woke up a bit late so I didn't run with the team.  But I still had enough time to run before school.  So I just did a nice 3.3 mile loop around my neighborhood.

Pm -  Wow! What a swag afternoon!  Our new uniforms came and they are lickin cool.  The run was super dope, we did a 6.15 mile loop that included going across the top of majestic Foremaster Ridge.  Dang, what a beast ridge.  On the run, we talked about the 1-10 scale of female attractivity.  We talked about like where various females would fit and how it should be scaled and if holy beings are included and we just really just dissected it hardcore.  On our run we did 2 200 meter surges then 2 more back at school on the track.

We got our first meet tomorrow.  It should be dope.  I'm doing the 3200m which I've only done once in my life, so I'm pretty excited about that.

Something that raised hell today:  that would be the fact that Jake got his gpa above 1.0 today!  That's good cuz he's one of our top guys.  What a beast

Am -  It was such a nice morning this morning.  The morning was nice.   Wow.

Pm-  Yeeeeeeuh boy.  First meet of the year!  It was at Hurricane which sucks and it always windy.  We should up at 3:20 to find the meet was changed to 3 and the girls 1600m was already going!  That was asinine!  Anyways that kinda sucked for the 1600 guys cuz they didn't get any warm up.

The 3200m was pretty interesting.  I've only done it one other time in 9th grade.  So yeah it was different.  The race went out really slow, like a meager 1:18, lol.  We kept picking up the pace lap by lap.  Really the only competitive guys in the race was us 4 Pine View guys.  In the second mile, after a belligerent 5:07 I think, me and Preston started changing the lead every 200.  Then with 800 left I just kinda took off and then finished in 10:07.  Now I just need to run it one more time and get it qualifies for state, which is like 9:58.  I definately prefer the shorter track races.  6.1 total with warms and cools.

Also then in the 4x4, my team threw down on some noobs and posted a swag 3:42 for the win.

Am -  We met at 8 this morning to to our main workout cause it's spring break.  Our war ups were cool, I felt like a really cool person as the sun was just peaking over the brilliant horizon of Zion National Park to the east.  We warmed up 2 miles then did our workout, my groups was 4x1000m and 2 300's.  The 1k's were mucho dificil este mañana, no se porque.  Pero, yo trabajadé como un toro.  My times were 3:14, :09, :08, :07.  I put what speed I could into the 300's, I was already extremely tired.  Still got a decent 42 and 43.  After that we lifted and got super swoll.  6 miles total.

Pm -  I went out for a run at around 4.  Man it was hot!  I haven't warn a shirt with sleeves for a long time, and for good reason.  It was just a good but boring run.

Am -  This morning our team just went on a nice 60 minute run.  We ran along the river trail till River road.  Then ran on that road basically all the way back to school.  Our pace was pretty fast, it was kinda hard but leisurely at the same time.  We talked about floating down the river all the way to lake mead, then down the Colorado to the gulf of California, then out to Japan.  That sounds like a pretty fun adventure.  Our loop was 7.9 miles and then we did 8 barefoot strides on some garbage grass the was like rock hard.

Pm -  I was shooting baby heads out in Warner valley with the fam.  So before we left, ne and Alex got a head start and ran back towards the city.  We did 3.7 mile which was good.  Would found this lovely grass field in the middle of a new developement Stuck Farms.

Also we did some lifting after.  Someone had a fire playlist going with some Ice Cube, Notorious BIG, Warren G.  Probly controversial Cam but idk.

Pm -  Me, Cam, Paul, and Alex went to the new Fiesta Fun to bowl and just check it out.  It was pretty rad.  After that we ran out in the desert behind my house, just like a nice slow run with luscious cloud cover.  We ran through all the new bulldozed area and stuff.  3.3 miles.

Am -  This morning we did some hill repeats.  Workout was 2 x (800m, 400m, 200m) then 400m, 200m.  Man, this workout was really tough.  On the first set, I honestly struggled a bit.  Especially on the 800, where my form was garbage.  On the second set though, I had kinda woken up a bit and had good form and some speedy running.  So yeah, I just finished out the workout really strong, then we ran back to school then went home.  Today is gonna be a great day, the weather is so fine.  7.5 miles

Pm -  I went for a run in the desert.  Since all the 4 wheeler trails are getting destroyed, I mainly did some trail blazing.  It was slow and hard, but I actually enjoyed being in the hot, majestic desert.

Something that raised hell today:  I was waving my hand around in the kitchen and smacked a full glass of milk.  The delicious, pure milk went everywhere.  It was so sad, and I had to clean it all up.

Am -  I went to go running at 11 o clock.  My goal today was to get a long run in with at 20 min tempo.  I headed down the road, I was running.  As I was running down the road I was listening to music through my iPod touch, 4th generation, black, 32 gb.  I really need to buy an armband, I hate holding it in my hand.  My plan was to go run my tempo on the track at school, but when I got there I saw there was a big soccer game going.  So I decided against it and chose to run my tempo on red cliffs drive/telegraph cause it was the flattest street I could think of.  Turns out that was a stupid idea.  After I got about 8 solid minutes, I had to stop at 3 intersections.  That really threw off any rhythm I had.  But really, it ended up to be an ok workout.  I ended up with 9 miles.

Pm -  We did our usual Monday workout:  4*1000m and 2*300.  It was pretty dang hard.  Like probably hard a a nice limestone rock.  My times were 3:07, :07, :12, :07.  I was pretty consistent except for that third one.  I think it was really hard. so I kinda didn't want to push all the way hard so I would have something for the last one.  But I just used guts to get through that one so it all worked out.  Also the 300's were really hard, I was just super tired today.  Lifting was also really hard.  6.5 miles total today.

Something that raised hell today:  it didn't really raise hell, but it was pretty funny.  On our warm up, some little black kid with dreads told me, "nice undies" as we ran by.  Lol, I guess my shorts were lookin pretty short.

Pm -  Really tough work on the track today.  I had to do 8 600's at goal 1600 pace (4:20).  It was really freakin hard.  Coach kept saying like we gotta get our mind and body used to that fast pace, ya know.  My legs were really flammin, and by the end me and Jason were a little slow on our times.  So coach had us do the last 2 as 400's so we could get the pace.  It really helped me focus and I shot out a 1:02 and 1:03.  Total mileage was around 6 I think.  We also lifted weights.

Something that raised hell today:  On our cool down, we passed the discus throwers, one of which was Triple B (big black Bryan).  Preston yelled, "bu bu bu…" and as he yelled, he tripped.  Preston fell and his face slammed right into coaches butt.  Wow, that was funny.

Pm -  Hurricane Invite!  It was a very fun meet.  Today I only did the medley 800m so I just chilled in the shade for a long time.  I warmed up about 3-4 miles before the race.  In the race, we just had a small lead going into Paul's 400.  He did good and made the lead a bit bigger.  Then it was my turn, swag.  It didn't feel like it, but I went out really fast in a :55.  That made me pretty tired, so the last lap I was really diggin.  I was totally alone and we ended up winning by over a hundred meters I think!  So yeah, my unofficial split was a 1:59, maybe quicker (timer dude said 1:57 but I trust coach holt more).

Solid first day getting some hardware and stuff.  Now I gotta go get some more in the open 800 tomorrow.

Pm -  We had such a beast run today.  Prestons mom told him his ACT score had come in the mail, so we had a plan to run past our houses to see our scores.  We went to my house and I got a nice 31.  If I actually study for it I think I could get a pretty good score.  Then we went passed Bryan's.  But poor guy, his hadn't come today.  The run overall was nice, we added some fartleks in.  6.7 miles.  My right Achilles is super sore, that's a problem I gotta fix quick.

Something that raised hell today:  we went to pizza pie cafe after out run, then went to jakes for his "ACT score opening", (he got 27),  and then watched Star Wars 2.  The whole was totally dope and raised hell

Am -  no run this morning.  my achilles was really sore yesterday afternoon.

Pm -  ran an easy 4.5 then quickly got back to the high school to help out with the little kid meet.

Something that raised hell today:  I went through a 100 meter long pitch black tunnel full of water and mud.  sketchy stuff bro.

Am -  Didn't run again this morning cause achilles.

Pm -  We had a meet today over at desert hills.  There was the decathlon and heptathlon, the distance events, and some relays.  It wasn't very big, just a few teams and not much people from those teams.  I warmed up for this race and felt fine, my achilles wasn't really bugging.  The race was 'aight.  I got out pretty good actually in a 58 and made a move right there with a lap to go.  But it didn't last long and I soon got passed with 200 meters to go.  I really just kinda felt like I ran out of gas.  It was weird.  Im sure mcdonalds for lunch and wendys an hour before sure as heck didn't help.  oh well, it wasn't a great race, but this stuff doesn't get to me so thats good.

Something that raised hell today:  Wow it was pretty crazy actually.  All day there was this wierd haze surrounding the city.  At lunch, Pine Valley Mountain couldn't be seen at all.  wow.

Am -  Did a 1000m repeats workout.  I struggled today. I wasn't able to run since friday morning cause I was backpacking in the Grand Canyon, and I think that was part of it.  I was just a bit out of shape.  So yeah, I did 3 repeats.  Then I gave the 300's a shot and did much better, i think cause that more anaerobic.  Threw down some solid 39's/40's on those.  Didn't get to lift weights because me and Alex had to go get our physicals for next year. 6 miles total.

Pm -  went out in the desert for my afternoon run.  It was pretty sweet.  Coming back home I had an experience that raised hell.  Also, as I passed the golf course, I found 4 golf balls.  That's like a new record for me.

Something that raised hell today:  I was on my run and running through some sand when I saw some fresh snake tracks.  I stopped to check em out.  I followed them to a hole.  There was a long stick next to the whole so I stuck it in and a huge snake popped out a different hole somewhere.  Wow, that was sketchy.

Pm -  Panther Relays today.  I'm not gonna lie, i usually love track meets.   But this one kinda sucked.  First of all my legs were still feeling hammered.  So my races in the distance Medly (1600), 4x800, 4x100, and 4x400 weren't too hot.  Also the wind was absolutely horrible.  Especially with it blowing my long hair all in my face and stuff.  The wind was also blowing around a bunch of crap so I was sneezing a ton.  Good meet to get through.  6.25 total.

Pm -  we ran up into green springs and passed my house, then down through old Washington and back to school.  We did a nice fartlek workout on the run.  My legs still are feeling super tired and hammered, but they felt a bit fresher after I rolled out a lot.  We saw my dog when we passed my house, that was cool.  7.9 miles.

Cool fact of the day:  there is a documentary called Hasselhoff vs. Berlin Wall.  It's highly recommended by Mr. Holt Sr.

Am -  same old Starbucks 4 miler.  Colder than usual.

Pm -  today was a nice pre-race run.  We did our normal shoe run route passed Joy's house.  When we got to the wood bridge to cross a stream, there was city workers doing stuff to it.  So we took a detour in the river and found something that raised hell.  At the Ellsworth's house we dropped off a foam minecraft sword, lol.  And then yeah, we got back and did our 200's.  We also practiced a lot of handoffs for the 4x400 on Saturday.  7 miles total.

SOMETHING THAT RAISED HELL TODAY:  we found a freakin dead beaver in the river!  Dang man, that was really something.  I even grabbed it.

Pm -   Meet at Desert Hells today.  I did the 1600 meter.  Ya know, I think I prepared pretty good for this race.  I didn't really give myself enough time to warm up though.  In the race, I had a solid first two laps.  I was right behind jaiden from desert hells.  Then on the last two, I totally lost focus.  My mind wasn't even in it, I was not racing at all.  It was just a crappy race for me.  I hardly kicked it in to the finish.  Whatever, it sucks but all I could go is look forward.  One interesting thing though looking at this race is how much I have improved as a runner.  I mean, this race was pretty sucky for me, yet I still ran a 4:33!  That's faster than my PR last year.   I find that very interesting. 6 miles total

Pm -  my only race today was the 4x400m.  So until then I did a nice 4.4 run, chilled a lot, ate a small lunch, then finally did a small warmup.  We dropped the baton at PV invite 2 weeks ago so we really needed to qualify this for state.  Colton went first, then Skylar.  The time on the clock seemed slower than it needed to be so I was doubting if we would get the time.  Then Paul got the baton.  By this point we were already like 150 meters ahead.  Then it was me and I just busted my balls and gave it all I had.  After I finished, my feet were flammin hot and I quickly took off my spikes. Anyways, we ended up not qualifying by .4 seconds, bummer.  But we got first place medals!  6.65 miles total today.

Am -  ok run in the morning.  I got tired from it. 4 miles

Pm -  wow, what an intense workout.  We first did a 600 meter at goal 800 pace.  So I did that in 1:26 and that got my throat burning.  Then we had 400's at 1600 pace until coach had us stop.  I was going for 1:06.  My head was really feeling the heat today and I got kinda dizzy and stuff.  It had to be like 90 degrees.  Our recovery between each 400 was 1 minute, and after 6 my body could only pull out a 1:12, I was completely exhausted.  So yeah today was freakin hard and brutal, yet also beast.  5.25 miles

Am -  4 easy miles.  It was beast temps, and I even took off my long sleeve cause I got too hot.

Pm -  Wind from hell is the story of the day.  It was flipping horrible.  The JV in the town Hurricane was canceled because it was even worse there.  Our workout though was a Coe workout.  We started at 100m at 1600 race pace and went up intervals of 10 meters.  The speed gradually got faster also till at 200m it was our 400 race pace.  So it was pretty tough.  5.5 miles total.

The wind today is just raising hell hardcore.  As I write this at 6:38 the visibility is like 2 miles or less from all the dust.

Pm -  Pretty dopesmack pre race run.  We headed down towards the river and saw the same dead beaver that was there last week.  It's getting pretty gnarly.  Yeah, then we ran around, up a hill, found some crab apples to eat, ran through a desert, smelled a dead cow, found a bone, just the usual.  6 miles.  Then back at school did some 200's and I worked on my starts out of blocks. 7 total.

Had a good start and got out next to Kale Sharp in our alley, the first one.  At the break, a hurricane guy and I think Adam Proffit came in front.  On the curve after 200 meters I slowly and smoothly and luscious came around them into the lead with a lap to go.  Coach said I really made a big gap 400-600 so that's good.  Wow, last 100 I just kicked as hard as I could cause I knew those guys were comin.  I was able to win and get a 1 second PR down to 1:56.86.  6.3 miles total on this dope smack day.

Something that raised hell today:  at CSI in las vegas, they showed us some pics.  one was of a scene where this guy had shot his head with a 30-06 and his head was blasted everywhere, they found pieces of his skull every where and his eyeball on a shed.  Another one was where this lady jumped off a building and got her head decapitated, blood and guts everywhere.  WOW, dunno if im gonna eat great the next few days.  Those pics were literally the most gruesome stuff Ive ever seen.

Am -  back for the second day of Snow Canyon Invite.  Really rainy still, but not really any wind so that was nice.  Just did the 4x400 today, so I say around for a very long time. The timing system for this meet was so slow, so we didn't end up racing till about 2:30.  I was about to warm up during the 800's about an hour before when I got this excruciating pain in my stomach.  It was so hardcore and I did so much stuff to get rid of it.  Luckily it got better and better till I was feeling pretty good.  So I didn't run as much as I wanted but oh well.

Our race went pretty beast.  Colton ran awesome to give us the lead after one leg.  Skylar did good, probly the slowest and he got passed.  But then Paul ran beast and with a great handoff between me and him I was in the lead.  I was able to hold canyon view off for the win in 3:30.31 by a second and a half.  It was a good battle with them.  Now we are second in 3A right between DH and canyon view is right there too.  And we finally qualified for state! The race really made my hip hurt a bit and now it's pretty sore.

Ran a bit when I got home.

Also did yoga.

Pm -  Went to the rec center and did some clutch pool running.  At first I was doing like a pyramid interval workout.  But I really ended up just doing random hard intervals of like 1, 2, or 3 minutes.  Doing that didn't bug my hip, super rad.  Pretty sure I saw Mr. Gentry, my elementary school PE teacher, so that was dope smack.

Am -  2.5 miles.  Last morning run for a looooooong time, that's awesome.

Pm -  5.5 total.  Went over to Dixie for day 2 of region.  When we got there I did a good shake out, then tried to mimick how I would start in the 800 to test out my hip.  Yeah, it's not there yet.  So that's sucks, but I still got a decent amount of easy miles in.  It turned ok that I missed the 800 because Paul got 4th place and qualified for state.  Also Dallin in the 3200m by place so that's dope too.

Took the APUSH test this morning.  I feel pretty good about it.  Hopefully will get a 5.  Freakin glad to be done with that though, that was a hard class.

Pm -  around 1:30, cause we got excused after the test, I did 45 mins with like 5 fartleks.  I felt alright.  Not 100% on the fast stuff, but it's coming along real good.   I got 6.1 miles

Pm -  I went out at 6 down to the Virgin River Trail for my run.  It was pretty sweet, all rainy and whatnot.  The temps were pretty nice so I went shirtless too.  My watch died after 3 minutes, and I was supposed to do 45 minutes, so I just guessed on distance and tried to go around 6 miles.  Hip felt decent.  Trying To Be Cool by Phoenix was going through my head the whole entire time.  I thought a lot about state next week, and I am feeling very confident in my ability to win both my open races.

Something that raised hell today:  washed my luscious 2000 honda civic, and about 15 minutes later it started raining.  wow.  Also my new case for my phone came in the mail.  dope.  Also I got premium for spotify cuz right now its only 99 cents for 3 months.  life is full of hell raising thing right now.

Pm -  really short mileage today.  Started out with some handoffs, trying to perfect ours for the medley so we each run the optimal distance.  Then 4 400's, did like 1:14, 1:10, 1:08, 1:03.  Right hip felt uncomfortable on those.  Not really painful but could be better.  After I went in to the trainer and got E stem.  Later it tightened up so I did lots of stretching and yoga.  Hopefully I can hold on this week and it will be good enough to get through 4 races.  Then I'll have two weeks to heal it for good!!!  3.5 miles

Pm -  did 1.5 warm. Then we did some master blasters, basically a bunch of 200's at pretty quick pace.  I went pretty fast which felt pretty good at the moment. Later my butt got tightened up.  The good thing though is that running pretty fast is feeling pretty good. Worked on 4x400 and medley handoffs then cooled 2.25 miles.  4.5 total and then right now im getting e-stem on my but so that feels pretty luscious.

Am - did the 1600 meter this morning.  I did a few miles warm and had some ibuprofen and all that.  I felt pretty good.  The race started slow s bit like 1:07.  It was raining a bit and so water was spraying up in my face.  I guess lap 2 was really slow too.  I dunno what the split was though.  I kept a good position through the 3rd lap and then the leaders made a move at 600 to go and we really picked it up.  I just battled the rest of the way and ended up 4th in 4:30.  Not a great time, but I'm happy with how it went.

Pm -  Around 4 I anchored our medley team.  It wasn't too good.  I did ok the first lap, and tried to make a move with a lap to go but nothing came.  I just felt completely exausted.  We ended up getting 5th.

Pm-  came into the 800 very positive.  I got a good warm up and was pretty pumped. Race started and I got out good.  I was into about 3 going into the final lap.  Usually I have so much energy left right here, but I didn't have it.  I tried for the pass, but didn't go any where.  I was kinda just hanging on with 300 to go and coming onto the last 200 I had nothing left.  It was such a horrible feeling, my legs feeling so dead.  Pretty disappointing getting 10th.

4x400 was better.  We went out and ran like a PR 3:30.  The other teams beasted though and we ended up 8th.  It was a pretty fun time.

Over all it was a good track season.  I had some good PR's in the 800 and 1600.  Hurting my hip really messed with my season at the end, I wonder if things may have been different had that not happened.  But I ended up with a medal at state in 1600 so I can end with that positive.  Cross country with be great to kinda get a new start and get things rolling again.

Pm - ran on top of Boulder mountain. Saw some awesome views and took team pics from the top. A few of us guys got to the top and doing a radio tower. We climbed up it and tied Logan's camp shirt on top. 5 miles it was beast

Am - final run at XC camp, how sad. It was a great run though we ran on some trails around pine lake. Temperature was perfect it was a legit run. The beginning of the end it starting for my high school running it's a bumma.

Pm - got home from XC camp really tired. I wanted to just rest but i decided I wanted to just get my last double of the week over with instead of do it tomorrow. So I got out and did it. I had more incentive too; my new shoes got here while I was gone and it was overcast so the temp was only like 102. It was pretty nice, I just did my normal 30 min route; to green springs park and back. 4 miles in the new brooks glycerin felt good.

Am - Woke up around 8:30 and went for a nice 6 mile run by myself. I just ran up through my neighborhood past Green Springs park into the desert a little ways and back home. It was one of those runs where I get really lost in my thoughts about what I want to do in my running this year so it went by pretty fast. I did pass this car with some sketchy looking dude at the park, I thought he was maybe waiting to do a drug deal. So I thought for a while about what I would do if he started shooting at me and chasing me in his car.

Am -  Met up with the team for practice after 3 days apart, it felt like so long.  It felt great to be back with mah homies as we did a 70 min trail run with some dope striders after.  Running prospector trail I felt tired but then when the shoes came off and we did striders, I felt robust and rejuvenated with the energy of a young tortoise.  8.5 mile run, 10 total, word out.

Pm -  Went out to do Dino cliffs trail with Alex and Julien.  They didn't feel good so they turned back at 10 mins.  As I got to this one part where the trail turns and goes down the cliff and also looks like you could keep going straight along the cliff, I decided YOLO and went straight.  Turned out to be a beast illegal trail.  I went over my 30 mins and got 38 but it was worth it.  The most fun I ever have running is days like today when I'm out by myself discovering new trails.  The trail was sick it went right along the edge of a cliff it was so cool.  Got 5 miles, word out.

Am -  Had our teams first time trial today.  It was pretty great.  I felt super good on it.  We usually do it at our school, but because the baseball fields getting wrecked, we did it at Bloomington hills.  Race was fun, coach wanted us to pack it tight for most the time, then at this hill with about 500 to go we all just go from there.

I felt really good, I just chilled behind the leaders for most of it.  Paul kinda got antsy I guess a mile in and surged hard, got a lead.  Really, we were fine and we were gradually speeding up but whatever.  We regrouped, then with 700 to go everyone kinda slowed as we went around the bottom of the park, so I got to the front and started moving.  I got to the hill and shifted gears one more time.  I finished good, could've finished harder for sure but an uncontrollable variable prevented that today.  I got 10:41, pretty solid, with skylar right behind me and everybody else right after that.  I'm glad our team is looking beast. Honestly this wasn't too hard for me.  I'm pretty excited for some of our main races like Herriman and nebo.

After that did a little workout on the rolling hills at the park, then striders and a few more miles on the grass.  About 7 total today.  Oh and me and skylar saw Aaron Metler in the bathroom before and we were 1&2.  No doubt connected.

No doubt in deed! While it is on your mind, you should write (maybe in a private journal!) about all the stuff that was going through your mind, what you did, even what you ate and drank that may have caused the variable. So if it ever happens again you can try to find connections.

Also, great controlled running today. I think you could have 15:45 on the course today!

Beast hike in the day.

Pm -  Got out around 5 and did my usual up and back to Green Springs Park.  Got 3.9 miles.  I extremely did not want to go cuz I felt tired, but as I got warmed up and going, it was great.  I truly feel so free and alive in my body when I run, and I have enjoyed it so much the last 4 years.  Some tendon in my right ankle was sore from rolling it on Saturday, and so was my right knee from taking a spill on saturday, but other than that I felt pretty good.

Am -  Good grass run, I felt ok in my body.  We ran over at my old elementary school Sandstone so I could really feel the presence of the raptor spirit.  Feel pretty bad though.  I guess we had practice yesterday and I must not have listened, so I missed it.  That no excuse though, I really need to pay attention when coach is talking.  4 total.

Pm -  So had first race of the season.  It was pretty good.  Game plan was to hold a tight pack basically the whole race.  As the race started out, there was a bunch of JV guys out quick and we didn't get out fast enough so we had to worked to hard to get our pack together and in a good position.  I really chilled the whole race just trying to help keep the pack together.  On the 3rd lap everybody started to kinda slow down and I wanted to get going.  So I tried to wait for everyone.  Then I passed coach and asked him if I should just go.  He told me yeah so last half mile I started going pretty good and passed like 5 guys.  Finished really good last 300, I just had a lot left.  Really, this race was pretty cheese, I never was hurting at all.  But you know, those races will come #evildevilemoji.  8.1 on the afternoon

Am -  Turned up at practicar a little late so I didn't get as far, only 3.6 miles.  I actually quite enjoyed the first half, mostly alone.  And I talked to Carson for a bit.

Pm -  Easy money 30 minutes in the afternoon.  First a few of us boys ran with the birthday man, coach, to take some money to the bank.  Then we ran down to my aumamauter Sandstone Elementary to do some barefoot on the grass.  After like 10 minutes, this hardcore battle between the boys and girls team started.  Lol, I have no idea how it started, but it was over the possession of a little foam football.  The battle went back and forth.  Eventually it got intense, like Andrew wrestled hardcore with his graduated brother, people lost their dignity, and little meskerem the Ethiopian was tackling people.

Boys won though, so no worries.  After we hardcore surrounded Sylvia and ripped it from her hands.

4 miles in the afternoon.  Lifted weights.  Later at home did a lot of core and other strengthening stuff.  Really appreciating my foam roller lately. word out

Am -  Our team didn't have a race or anything today.  We did have our annual car wash fundraiser at 10, so we still met up decently early at 7.  Meeting place was Sullivan "Soccer" Park, where they are finally starting to build the 4 full size soccer fields after 3 or 4 years.  I think it should end up being a dope place to run, maybe have a race there, I dunno.  Anyway, we just a 60 min run.  There was about 10 of us guys there and we ran up towards telegraph, then east to Washington parkway, and up that all the way.  The way back was dope.  Ran through majestic Hell Hole.  Good times.  Legs are feeling strong and swag.  Got 7.6 total.

Am -  Good run 4 miles, I felt good and wasn't very tired.  I felt like I had plenty of energy.  Me and Jake conducted a social experiment of sorts this morning.  We showed up 10 mins early to park in 2 of the 3 open parking spots, even though we have paid ones, to see what would happened.  Lol, some fine folks got PO'd.

Pm -  Killer long run today.  It was great, everyone ran really strong and all 10 or so of us held it together the whole time.  I felt decent the whole time, but the run seems to go on so long.  At 65 mins i felt like we had gone for 3 hours.  We ran a cool loop all around Washington city. Ended up about 11.25 miles. Back at school did a mile of barefoot striders.

Lifted weights, felt strong.

12 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it became pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make her wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and also gave unto her husband with her, and he did eat.

23 And unto Adam, I, the Lord God, said: Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the fruit of the tree of which I commanded thee, saying--Thou shalt not eat of it, cursed shall be the ground for thy sake;

in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.

31 So I drove out the man, and I placed at the east of the Garden of Eden, cherubim and a flaming sword, which turned every way to keep the way of the tree of life.

Am -  dang, woke up feeling insanely tired.  The run was a struggle.  4 miles

Pm -  Did a pretty dope interval workout today.  JV was running Dixie allcomers at 6 so about the top 10 of us boys ran at bloomington hills park at 4.  We did 1600, 1200, 1000, 800, 400 all at race pace.  It wasn't supposed to be killer, but we were all feeling yesterday so it was pretty hard.  It was good though, probably hardest workout of the season so far.  Ended up with 8.1 miles.  After we went over to Maverick, I grab a nice 44 oz blue powered with free limes.  As I drank I felt all the beast electrolytes flow through my veins.

Watched our JV do awesome, I thinks the boys might have won.

ATTENTION!!!  This weekend our team is doing our all night run-a-thon.  To make a little bit extra money we are doing a special ceremony where we will be sacrificing Dallen Gillespie.  We are gonna put him on a stake and light him on fire.  YOUR FUND WILL BE GREATLY APRECIATED.  Feel free to donate unlimited amounts of money.  Bring cash to PVHS or email me at 16hillnicr@washk12.org.  Dallen is sacrificing himself willingly for the greater good of the team so don't worry if this sounds too harsh.

Am -  What a great run.  I switched my watch to kilometers last night, as I'm gonna try to rewire my brain to the metric system.  It went by so fast, we pounded out K after K.  The run was a solid 4:40 pace, 6.4 kilometers.

Pm -  Today the Pine View Panthers ran sand hills.  We ran through Washington over to our hill and commenced the workout of 2 (3*1min).  Man!  Doing these in the sand is so killer.  The super deep sand makes them such a quad destroyer.  After the recovery day yesterday, I felt good and rested and was able to give a beast effort.  Everyone else ran studly, I was barely able to beat everyone on some of them.  Got 10.3K

Pm -  this afternoon our teams all-night run-a-thon started.  We were broke into shifts of when we ran so from 3-5 was the A shift.  It wasn't my turn but I went and ran a few miles, not sure how many.  Later when we commenced again after the football game, it was my shift so I ran 2 miles and a few more minutes.  Idk how much at what times, but for Friday from 3-11:59pm I got 6 miles.

Am -  Crazy night man.  I gotta say, probably the funnest run-a-thon Ive been to.   It was legit we did so much dope stuff!  At 10 I went and picked up 24 pizzas so we were loaded there.  We had two flat screens set up; we played some beast call of duty zombies on Julien xbox.  We had a sweet game of ultimate in which my brother DIDN'T break my nose, that's always good.  Me and Jake and Zach and Bryan and Cam had fun for an hour rolling a giant tire around the stadium (it was getting late).  Me and Bryan Rollerbladed around a bit.  Danced to some Katy Perry, she's great.  Oh yeah and our run-a-thon was at the track.  Controversial Cam came and partied with us, I sure will miss him.

I did some running too.  From 12-8am I got 8.75 miles, not counting a fair amount of running in ultimate.  I ran 3 times for my relay shift from 3-5am.  During that time I also just jogged around the track for a while with Coach holt, cam, jake and alex.  I got kinda emotional on the last lap of my last turn in the relay, just thinking about how it's another one of my lasts of high school and high school running stuff.  At 7am, we did the dash for cash, where within our 3 teams we each do just a 400m then pass the baton.  It was brutal man, I was using the last bits of energy I had.  Lol I dunno what I split, maybe a 1:02.

Pm -  Final team time trial of the year today.  It went beast.  With some problems I've had, this was really kinda my first race of the year in a way.  I just went out and pushed hard and did my best and things went great.  My time was 10:15 so a nice PR for the course.  Our pack was strong and I'm pretty sure our team ran really good.  I looked right behind me after I finished and saw all our guys roll in.

After the race, we had a workout.  Me and a few guys did 2*800m at race pace.  I went both 2:33, they were good and strong.  I focused on having a quick cadence and good knee drive.  Total with some warm and cool was 8.6 on the afternoon.

Said goodbye to one of my best friends today, Cameron Brown.  He's leaving to serve a mission in Finland tomorrow.  He came to watch so it was our final farewell.  He's become one of my best friends the last 3 years.  Not gonna lie I cried pretty much the whole way home.

Am -  Easy 4 in the morning.

Pm -  Left from pvhs to go up to Murray for the murray invite.  Got to Murray Park around 2pm and soon after ran the course wit a lot of the guys.  I seemed pretty cool but confusing at a lot of places too.  Chilled in the shade for a bit then ran a little more 30 minutes before race time.  I felt pretty good.

Started out strong, a little faster than I like to cause you gotta get good positioning in big races, ya know.  First mile went pretty quick.  I felt a little off kinda because the last two races I've done have been 2 miles.  In the second mile I felt kinda tired, and was sticking in with a group that fell a bit off the leaders by 2 miles.  Ha, except Garek he was already out in narnia.  I was kinda scared i would be too tired for the last mile.  But starting mile 3 I was feeling good, so I made a move and broke out of the pack I was in.  I gained some on the lead pack, and coulda caught them if I had 400 more meters.  I ran mostly all alone the last mile and finished up 12th.  Im pretty happy with how I did.  I'd say my mistake was not trusting my strength to stick on the front pack.  Then I could have out kicked some guys and got a t-shirt!  Ahh, it's good though, just gotta keep racing and getting better at it for state.

On team terms we did good.  After I finished I looked back and was a bit worried when I didn't see our guys for a second, then our 2,3,4 all rolled in.  Then our 5th was way back and that killed us.  I guess that's what happens when 3 guys have bad days.  We finished around 10 points behind Lone Peak in 4th.  Good vibes though man, I love our team.  Except maybe how Preston is a freakin weirdo with the davis girls, smh.  Lol, some of the things he does. . .

Am -  After a luscious sleeping seshun, got up early to go do a workout on the state course.  Wow, I was excited to finally see how the last mile goes.  So we first ran it easy as a warmup.  I like it better except for how there is a sharp turn right before the finish.  Workout was great, did 3*(1,2,3min) at goal race pace for state so mine was 5:15.  I just ended up breaking away from everyone else a bit at the ends to hit my pace.  Good reps, they got fairly hard by the end.  Didn't do the 3 min on the last set, we were almost at our 60 mins for the day.  So we just cooled a few minutes to the bus and finished up with 8.2 miles for the day.  Fun team trip up to salt lake.  Word out.

Am -  Usual easy 30mins this morning.  I think I felt a little better and fresher legs than normal. Got 4.05 miles in.  Skylar and coach continued their Twitter discussion about BYU playing dirty.  Lol, I don't really care.  BYU won and all teams do crap that doesn't get put into the media.

Pm -  Long run this afternoon.  Started out just normal, we ran up to the intersection of telegraph and greensprings by hart's where the girls were waiting for the light.  So we're waiting, and I look over to see coach holt crouching over some dude, and wow!  It turns out coach Roberts is passed out behind a bush.  Me and some guys ran back and grabbed coaches tahoe, rushed back and coach holt drove coach Roberts safely back.  Luckily he's okay, go check out his dope blog, @ vis.fastrunningblog.com.

So then we just finished our 90 min run going up around Albino resort passed pioneer park,  then back on red cliffs drive.  Ended up with a 11.6 mile run.  Legs felt very tired by the end.  The weather was great though, I'm not sure but it felt around 90 or something.  Did a mile of barefoot striders after and lifted weights.

Am -  easy 4 miles.  It was pouring rain all night, then right before 6:15 it stopped.  Last 2 miles, my soleus down kinda by my inner ankle, was really bugging me.  Weird pain.

Pm -  Went over to Bloomington Hills north park for our (about top 10 guys) interval workout.  The rest of the team had a duel meet vs. DH after.  It was cloudy all day with rain on and off, wasn't raining when we started.  We did 3*(1000m, 3min rest, 600m).  The 1000m intervals were pretty cheese.  First one was 3:27, around 5:30 pace.  Then a 600m around 1:50, I think like 4:50 pace.  The 1000's got a bit quicker, down to 3:15 for the last one.  The 600's stayed about the same, but had more and more uphill.  The last one was all uphill so it was pretty tough.  Total of 8 miles.

I really felt great.  Our recovery week last week has really helped my legs feel fresh this week.  My form felt great on the repeats, except I was slipping some on the wet grass.  It rained a bit during the workout, barely though.  Team did splendid and today was just baller.  Didn't get to stay and watch the meet though, had to go home and do loads of calculus work.  Oh bumma.

Am -  An easy 4 in the morning before school.

Pm -  Headed up to Spanish Fork around 10 am, had a nice lunch at Costa Vida at 12:30, got up to the high school around 2:45.  Me, Alex, Paul, and Jake walked the course to see where it went.  It was completely different from 2 years ago at Maple Mountain High School, and seemed to be pretty nice with no sharp turns.  After that, was able to chill for a while, even read some Frankenstein for AP Lit.  Eventually got going on like a 4 mile warm-up.  I felt really good in my energy level and stuff.

Race went down like this.  Had a good start, I got into the front 20 or so.  After about .75 miles, I was in a pack right behind AF's top 2.  Ha, some kind right next to me said to the kid behind him something like, "get off my a**, you've been right on me the whole time!"  I just kinda laughed inside my head cause for reals, we were running a cross country race, I had been pushing and shoving dudes all over the place.  A bit after a mile, AF's 3rd guy broke away a bit and I moved up towards him a bit, and for the next mile I just worked right there, trying to not let him get out of my grasp.  At 2 miles, I was hurting, I had done a pretty good job not letting off the gas.  Olympus' 1st guy passed me here.  With 800m to go, I dug a bit more, and was gaining slowly on 3rd and 4th place.  I was just about 15 meters behind those 2 with 200 meters to go, when Olympus guy throws in a massive kick and battles the AF kid for 3rd.  By now I was spent, so my finish wasn't my best speed.  But I'm pretty happy with my race; there's a few spots I should have made a short surge to stay with AF and stuff.  But you know what they say; it happens. #liveandlearn

Fun race, our team did alright too.  We got 4th, just 16 points off 2nd place.  Our 2 and 3 have really stepped it up this season.  Unfortunately our 3 should be like our 5 or 6 so hopefully some more guys can step it up and we will beast and feast!  Going into the final part of the season; it's about to go down . . . .  Word out.

Am -  Stayed the night at Jason's Aunt's house in Salem.  Headed up to the state course around 9:30.  Legit was like a foot away from dying, Jason's mom saved us all with her mad driving skills.  At sugarhouse did a fartlek workout: 2*(1,2,3min) at a solid 5:15 pace.  The 1 mins were fast more around 4:50 cause we were going down hill.  The rest was good, I pushed hard.  Legs just felt a bit tired from racing hard yesterday.  Also did some downhill work on the downhill turn by the flower beds.  Total miles around 8.5, good day.

Am - Easy 4 miles. Felt pretty good.  Alex keeping us up till 10:15 every night is getting really annoying.  I need more sleep.

Pm -  Tough workout this afternoon.  We did 3 mile repeats at XC race pace (goal for region).  My goal time was 5:05 pace.  First mile was supposed to be 10 seconds fast.  I was able to get 4:53, a bit quick and it was hard.  Second was supposed to be 15 seconds slow; I ran 5:24.  This rep was too slow, but it was freakin hard and my legs were dying.  Last rep was supposed to be 5 seconds fast so I had to get 5:00.  I told my self, "I'm not gonna be a noob who runs a crappy last mile."  So when I came through at 3:51 for 1200, I busted my but and ran 1:08 to finish up with 4:59.  After those miles, we did 200m all out.  The whole workout was supposed to simulate a 5k race, good stuff.

My cool down was rough.  I was feeling waaay dizzy; no doubt I didn't hydrate good today and yesterday.  Just did laps on the track so if I passed out then some soccer player could save me.   Got 8 miles on the afternoon.  Lifted weights after.

Pm -  Team was racing at Cedar Invite today.  I rode the bus up to cedar, then I drove me and the varsity girls over to the region course in coach holt's tahoe.  Over there, I ran 15 mins warmup, then did a nice little fartlek workout; 2*(1,2,3min).  Did them at goal race pace for region, a nice flat course, so 5:05.  Legs were feeling pretty tired, but honestly I ran the reps without much trouble at all.

Drove back to Cedar High and I ran 20 minutes barefoot around the course.  Got 8.7 total on the afternoon.  Shout out to my boys for taking the win in JV and Varsity!  Also met Garek B who wrecked the boys race, wow.  Good luck to Coach Holt running his last ST. George marathon tomorrow.

Am -  Got up to aid station mile 22 for the STG marathon around 7.  Me, Alex, and Jake took off from there for our run for today.  We headed up the bike trail at first, then found a cool single track that took off.  It led us down a ravine onto a trail which led us to chuck walla trail and we ran that all the way back to the aid station.  Beast 5.1 mile loop.

Aid station was fun.  Saw Coach Holt in his grand finale, full of emotion.  I saw I think fritz, the East coach, Ryan Nielsen, Mr. Neilsen, all sort of people.  And I think the parents of Thom Heaps of lehi?  They had pioneers uni's on and said they knew Connor baller.

Pm -  Today we did a 1600m time trial.  Headed out on a rainy, windy, and cold warmup, and when we got back to school we had to chill in the school for 30 minutes cuz lightning.  Luckily we were eventually able to go out and run.  In the 1600m, I got out a bit quick, and had a 5 meter gap 150m in.  It was tough to push hard on the track just out of the blue, let alone not having anybody to push with.  I ended up 4:33 so it was decent.  Kinda bummed but my speed will for sure get better as we taper and do more stuff like this.  Also did a 200m sprint after.  I felt good and fast, but coach said I need to get forward more to get more out of my long stride.  There's always something to work on.  5.5 on the afternoon.

Am -  easy run, felt pretty good.  Wore my early birthday present, garmin 225.  It's pretty sick.

Pm -  Region today!  Had a good day and was pretty well physically prepared.  Honestly didn't have my best mental do us today, I know just what I need to do at state.  Race was in Cedar at bicentennial park.  I got 2.5 warmup and got loose and ready to go.

Race started out good, a bit quick but really right where it should be, 5:07.  I was right up with the hellians, things were going good.  I wasn't feeling as strong or relaxed in my breathing as I had hoped.  I was doing good working where I was, until about 1.5 Jaiden and Josh from DH pulled away and I just let it happen.  I can not do that, especially when like josh only finished like 10 seconds ahead of me!  So yeah from 1.5 to 2 miles I really just lost focus.  We all promised each other we would surge at 2 miles, so I was able to pull it together and give a strong 600m or so, then I really lost focus again.  Dallin passes me, then sage and spencer encouraged me, but I never responded until coach holt yelled at me and I pulled it together and busted my balls one last time.  I zoomed passed those three, then gained on jaiden till I blew passed him with 75m to go.  That musta awakened him cuz then he passed me back right after and I finished in 3rd place.  Time was slow, the whole race was kinda weird.

State in one week, I know what I need to do.  Our team was the closest we've been to DH all year, we're gonna go get em. I'm glad I was able to have a strong kick, something I haven't really had all year, I'm sure tapering is bringing that out.  7 miles total on the afternoon.  Fall break starting Thursday, ahhhhh yeah.

Nick,

I'm the Cedar guys coach. I just wanted to tell you how impressed I was with the end of your race yesterday. I know you wanted to win and lost focus a little in the middle, but you easily could have settled for 6-8th place. I could see your stride change with 600m to go and you were a beast from then on. That showed some mental strength that few have. Being able to push it even when you're not at your best that day. I am going to share your example at practice today with my guys, so I hope you don't mind. Good luck next week.

Am -  Ran a short little shakeout with the team around South Towne Center.  Felt nice.  I think it was like 2.5 miles.

Pm -  Dang today was legit.  Got to Sugarhouse Park around 11.  There was a pretty cool breeze so it was a bit cold.  Chilled under some trees, checked out the course changes, and watched the 1A and 2A races to pass time.  I was eating fruit the whole time.  Hung out with CB and some Lehi guys a bit and watched our girls race.  Then started warmup stuff.  We warmed up about 20 minutes and got about 2.5 miles.  I was really feeling good.

Got to the start line and started running the race when the starters started the race.  I chilled out good at the first, and about by the first big downhill I worked up to the leaders.  Dang, I was feeling so good I knew I had to win it or I'm no man.  Me and Dallin chilled together right in the lead pack going up the hill then down around the pond.  Going up the gradual hill I made my way to the very front, and going down the hill heading back towards the west I took the lead.  Stansbury's top guy came up with me and passed me.  I chilled a bit and on the u turn heading back east I used the downhill I took the lead for the last time and started hammering.  I was thinking, "wow this is it, there's no way I'm getting passed now."  Every cheering made it sound that McKade and all those guys were right behind me.  I kept putting in surges and running balls to the wall.  Came on to the track and sprinted in and won!  Wow, that's been my goal since 8th grade.  Man, I gotta thank my coaches so much for helping me get here, and all my teammates.  Shout out to my parents for supporting me so much.  We got 2nd as team and brought home a trophy, love my team.  We were gunning for DH but today they were too beast, but we did our best.

Holt told me Coach timo wheeled the course at 5k so I'm putting that.  I got like .5 cool down watching the 4A and 5A boys races.  4A was epic, I was pulling for Garek but Alek was too good.  Props to CB for his beast 3rd.

Am -  Drove up to Cedar to watch Big Sky Championships.  Went early though and did a workout at bicentennial park.  Warmed up a bit, then did 5 minutes of tempo.  Changed into spikes and we did 10*400m.  Goal pace was 1:12-1:14 at first.  I felt great the first 5, then after a 5 min jogging rest, did the last 5.  They were a bit harder and faster, more like 1:08-1:10.  Ran 1:03 on the last oneand it felt supreme.  My teammates also did really prime, good day to day.  Cooled down a bit back to the race to 8.8 miles.

Shout out to Hayden Hawks, Big Sky Champ!  That race was fun to watch, SUU is beast.

Pm -  wrote a semi long race report but it went away so now I'm kinda irked to the core.  Didn't have a great race at the Dirt mile.  Never showed up with a racing mentality and couldnt stick it.  It was way way windy.  Taking it as a tempo and moving on.  Gotta focus on some good training for DH race and Nike.  7 miles in the afternoon.

Pm -  Drove out towards treasure valley park, way out in washington fields, for the race with desert hills.  I started to warm up with my friends and geez, my legs are still waaaaay sore from 200's on monday.  Same with everybody else, for some reason they like destroyed our legs.  Got a nice warm up in, then started the race.  I got out into the lead about 400m in with Dallen, we should have chilled out a bit probably.  The dirt road we were running on had like tiny rocks on it so i felt like I was slipping the whole time which was a bit annoying.  At 1 mile, I'm feeling tired, but ready to start going hard.  All the sudden Jaiden makes a massive surge and I try to go with him.  I'm pushing hard but he keeps pulling away.  Josh, Sage, and Tanner come up to me and I hang on them a bit, but my legs just didn't have much today.  I just kept pushing hard and dang Bryson passes me with 100 to go.  DH beasted today props to them.  I had a good effort, I know when I'm not pushing and that wasn't today.  Idk i guess my legs are just tired.  This was a good tune up for Nike, I'm feeling very confident in what I can do there.  5.4 total.

Then did 3 800m repeats.  1st was 2:35.  2nd was 2:28.  3rd was 2:18.  Those felt good, I wanted to just start going balls out.  Man, I love the 800m in track.  After did about 10 minutes of cool down then stretched.

Am -  Got up at 6:45 and drove up to run Mustang Pass.  I took my rake and headed up to work on the trail.  Ran 2 miles up, then spent about an hour clearing the trail.  I was using my rake like a scythe on the tumble weeds, and then it broke after about 40 mins.  So then I just used my hands.  I made pretty good progress on a section of the trail.  After I was done, I ran back and forth twice on about a mile section of the trail to give it some wear, then ran back to my car and went home.  Now going pheasant hunting.  7.4 miles.

Yo everybody who reads this and lives in St George area:  please go run Mustang Pass.  It is such a fun trail with amazing views of Pine Valley, but not enough people run it so it gets bad.  If lots of people run it it will stay in good shape.

Pm -  Today was the day of the great Pine View Dream Mile.  I've been pretty excited for this.  But it didn't turned out as beast as I had imagined.

The weather today was cold and insanely windy. Warmed up in a hoodie and beanie and gloves.  My legs felt great, I was ready to break the race record and possibly PR.  Coach had us run backwards starting at the 100m start line, then the wind wouldn't hit us as bad.  I got out good, through 200 in 32, but then the first lap was 1:08.  The wind was just too powerful to run good times, but I kept pushing.  I led the whole time, had a solid 3rd lap, and started kicking at 300m to go.  I was getting into my all out sprint at 200m left when a profound wind just stopped me and wow I was probly going 7:00 pace.  Battled in for I think 4:42.  It was actually a pretty beast effort, unfortunately the time didn't reflect that.

Nice cool down, saw the SUU guys.  Shout out to them for making nationals.  5.4 total today.

I got out pretty good.  Came through 1 mile in 4:55 which felt crazy fast and tiring, even though that should have been pretty good.  All the little bumps felt like freakin huge hills, it sucked.  I can't remember a time I've felt more tired/crappy in a race.  Each time the course turned to the south I attempted surges of speed and couldnt hold them.  By 2 miles it was getting to my head and it felt like the race would never end.  Turning onto the final stretch, I gave one last mental push and probably passed 5-10 guys.  Pretty dissapointing to have Nike go the way it did.  I had the total belief I could get top 21 and then my body just wasn't there.  Did some cool down, like a mile.

The body can't do what the mind doesn't envision. You might say the switchbacks killed you but that's only because your first mile was way too fast for what your body was prepared to do.

You had a great season, some much needed time off is good. Rest is as important as training, and as far as cycles for peaking, rest is even more important. Recover your mind and your fire.

Peace

From Holt on Sun, Dec 06, 2015 at 18:41:46 from 67.2.232.239

The mile wasn't too quick... This a guy who is in 4:20 mile, 1:55 800 shape. He is a state champ and a 15:30 5k guy. Just a bit burned from a long season.

From Glory in the long run on Mon, Dec 07, 2015 at 01:22:49 from 174.23.236.120

It's a hypothetical topic at this point, but it's not a moot point. Speaking only hypothetically and not really pertaining to this race I'd ask this: What's better, running 4:55 and dying or running 5:10 and being able to maintain that pace?

Miles Batty was one of the best Utah highschool runners, when he came in 2nd at state his response for how he could have done better was simply to say, "If I'd run the first mile 5-10 seconds slower I would have won."

From Holt on Mon, Dec 07, 2015 at 10:51:50 from 204.113.54.110

Then you have to ask... What is the point of running? If you are at Nick's level (or many of the other guys that you have made this comment on) the point is being at the front of the race, running a killer fast time, winning... that level of stuff. A JV runner who is just learning to run needs to learn to pace. A championship level runner needs to learn how to win. Being in 35th at the first mile is great placement for someone with a goal of being in the top 20 (and then who knows what happens; just ask Conner Baller!). If Nick would have started 10 seconds slower he may have/probably would have run a few places higher and a few seconds faster, but what is the difference between 100th place and 150th place to him? Nothing... At least here he could say I went out smart - at a pace that normally is manageable and I could build on, and puts me in position to reach my goals - but today just wasn't my day.

Again, totally different for an inexperienced runner (you're advice is 100% spot on); but you need to know your audience.

Am -  Got up around 9, ate a bowl of cereal, and headed out.  It was cold (for a desert dweller), like 35 with wind.  I felt pretty good though, so the pace was decently quick, just under 7:00.  Did one of my favorite loops; down to the frontage road, over to and down main street, across telegraph, up green springs drive up to the club house, then around my church and home.  Wore my new shorts, some dope BOA ones.  It was too windy of a day to wear shorts with a split like they have but #yolo.

I got a pair of BOAs with the Calavera pattern and it was probably my favorite Christmas gift ever

Am -  ran an easy 4 miles with Alex before church.  I don't run much on Sunday's, it was a nice way to start my day.  My family's going up to Eagle Point for 3 days to ski, so rather than run in 5 degrees I'm gonna take my rest day tomorrow, so I ran today.

Pm -  Got home and went on a run around 3.  45 degrees and sunny felt great.  Me, alex, and my dad ran Dino Cliffs and it was dope.  I saw Mr. Gunn, one of my teachers from middle who I ran up a volcano with in Costa Rica.  Legs were a bit tired from snowboarding crud the last two days, but I still felt pretty decent.  It was a lovely 5 miles.

Am -  Me, Alex, and my dad drove up the turkey farm road a ways and ran Yellow Knolls trail.  It was way sweet.  I'd never done it before, and there was such legit landscape.  It went through a place that would be a cool place to camp.  Trail was a bit hard, but overall great run.  Out and back 6 miles.
